Project description

As the prose writer Ion Adam pointed out, in 1907, Constanţa's history goes in time up to the period of the arrival in these territories of the first Greek colonists. A short retrospection in the history of Constanţa shows today a town pattern with an impressive cultural tradition, both by the age and the richness of evidence to attest the succession of many civilisations in this territory.

The Museum of National History and Archaeoloy, owing a very rich and valuable historical patrimony, intended by this project to make accesible the numerous artifacts discovered on Constanţa's territory and in the neighborhood and present them, in a stimulative manner, both to the Romanian public and the public in the whole world. Beginning with this idea, the project intended to digitize the most representative pieces of the local cultural patrimony and make a virtual tour of the Museum of National History and Archaeology Constanţa, which facilitates the access of any visitor, instantly, using the Internet.

Thus, within the project "The virtual tour in the ancient history of Tomis" there has been made a virtual presentation of the permanent exhibition dedicated to antiquity, completed by a photo gallery of the most valuable items in the museum's patrimony.

Another project direction aimed the achievement, based on the scientific considerations expressed by the Museum's specialists, to make some 3 D reconstitutions of three archaeological objectives in Constanţa: Roman Edifice with Mosaic, Hypogeum Tomb at Zorile, as well as the Precincts Wall of the city of Tomis.

The above mentioned approach ranges among the more and more numerous studies in the Romanian cultural area to join sciences and traditional research methods with the new media and the advanced technologies, as the Virtual Reality and Improved Reality.

Following this line, the project "Virtual tour in the ancient history of Tomis" intended to create tridimensional patterns for the three historical edifices above mentioned, based on advanced technologies for 3 D geometrical pattern-making and observing the parameters indicated by the specialists in the Museum.

Not last, the projects results, consisting in the reconstitution and transposing in digital format of the above mentioned vestiges, beside the virtual tour and the photo gallery, are accesible today to the public in the whole world, on a web page attached to the museum site: www minac.ro
